children of the tea estates

Children in Hong Kong have extra-curricular activities and kindergarten to attend, but children under 5 years old here are put in Child Development Centres (CDCs), which are often times sponsored and built by NGOs like Save the Children and UNICIEF, during the day. Children are provided with one meal per day at a cost. Mothers are also given time off their work, though many considered it to be insufficient, to breast-feed their children up to 2 years of age. Like a nursery, children are taught to make arts and crafts and learn simple alphabets in CDCs, it is not aimed to teach or let children learn, unlike extra-curricular activities, but a way to spend their time.

Children before have developed spinal problems after ling period of time being in hammock beds, being in a cramped manner. So now, iron baby beds are used. Improved toilets, and kitchen facilities are also provided to cater for different needs in recent years with the help of various NGOs. Children have a safe and secure place to stay and are better taken care of when their parents are out to work during the day. Consider how lucky children born in better countries to have comfortable beds and facilities, and consider how easy it is that a small change in the type of bed is able to protect so many children from potential harm.

The Child Development Centres (CDCs) keep track of the weight of children from 1-5 years old, as malnutrition and underweight are common among children. Malnutrition children, or children whose weight fluctuates between underweight and normal weight, are provided with extra supplements such as vitamins and extra powder for a special meal for these children.

To protect the workers, various tea certifications are created to guarantee a better quality of life for workers in the tea estates.  Learn the promises behind the labels and logos on your tea, show your care to the ones who contributed to the fine tea. When you look at the pack of tea, it is never going to be the same again; it is more than a product, but the people who work hard to support their family and make you the finest beverage.
